Dear Parent

Every year Manchester Juniors undertake a European Tour. In the last few years we have been to Poland, Germany, Eire and Moscow. In 2017 we have been invited to return to Rybnik in Poland. If you are interested in such a trip please read the information below and then confirm that you are interested ny the end of January 2017.

When

Between 27th May 2017 and 5th June 2017. We would take five days (four nights) including travel.

Where:

Rybnik is a town in southern Poland. Quite close to the infamous Auschwitz Concentration Camp and the famous salt mines. It is about two hour drive from Krakow. The school that we visit is one of three specialist chess schools in Poland.

Programme:

There will be two formal matches against a Polish children’s team and then probably both a rapidplay and a fun chess event. There will also be a chance to do sightseeing and mix with our hosts.

Cost:

The last time we went it cost about £400 per head including flight and hotel. We went by Ryanair from Leeds/Bradford airport direct to Krakow and then had a minibus to Rybnik. Last year one child received financial support from the John Robinson Trust and from the Manchester Chess Federation.

Accommodation:

We will probably stay again at the same hotel in Rybnik which was very satisfactory and near the school and the town centre..

Supervision:

Parents should travel with their children and remain responsible for them. In the past some parents have arranged for supervision of other children. Exceptionally I am prepared to supervise children over the age of 12 and they would have to pay for a single room supplement.

What do you do know?:

I already have three people who have said they would like to go. I will accept up to twelve children and their parents. Please let me know by 30th January if you wish to take part. I will then start the booking process for flights and accommodation. We will have to have confirmations by the end of February.

Travel company

We will use Howards Way Travel as in the past as they have managed the process very well.

Children aged under 18years who would like to take part in the Manchester Junior Chess Tour to Poland should contact julian.clissold@englishchess.org.
